چکیده

We report the detection of a new radio transient source, GCRT J1746−2757, located only 1. 1 north of the Galactic center. Consistent with other radio transients toward the Galactic center, this source brightened and faded on a time scale of a few months. No X-ray counterpart was detected. We also report new 0.33 GHz measurements of the radio counterpart to the X-ray transient source, XTE J1748−288, previously detected and monitored at higher radio frequencies. We show that the spectrum of XTE J1748−288 steepened considerably during a period of a few months after its peak. We also discuss the need for a more efficient means of finding additional radio transients. Subject headings: Galaxy: center — radio continuum — stars: variable: other

The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations

Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...

Searching for Prompt

The Fallbrook Low-Frequency Immediate Response Telescope (FLIRT) is an experiment designed to detect prompt radio counterparts to gamma ray bursts (GRBs) at 74 MHz. FLIRT is notiied of GRBs by the BACODINE and radio observations begin as early as one minute after the detection of a GRB. The goal of FLIRT is to detect radio counterparts to GRBs and measure their distances by measuring the disper...

Finding Radio Pulsars in and beyond the Galactic Center

Radio-wave scattering is enhanced dramatically for galactic center sources in a region with radius∼> 15 arc min. Using scattering from Sgr A∗ and other sources, we show that pulse broadening for pulsars in the Galactic center is at least 6.3 ν−4 seconds (ν = radio frequency in GHz) and is most likely 50–200 times larger because the relevant scattering screen appears to be within the Galactic ce...

A Bursting Radio Transient in the Direction of the Galactic Center

The radio sky is poorly sampled for rapidly varying transients because of the narrow field-of-view of most imaging radio telescopes at cm and shorter wavelengths. The emergence of sensitive long wavelength observations with intrinsically larger fields-of-view are changing this situation, as partly illustrated by our ongoing meter-wavelength monitoring observations and archival studies of the Ga...

Searching for Fast Radio Transients with SKA Phase 1

The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) provides an excellent opportunity for low-cost searches for fast radio transients. The increased sensitivity and field of view of the SKA compared with other radio telescopes will make it an ideal instrument to search for impulsive emission from high–energy density events. We present a high-level search ‘use case’ and propose event rate per unit cost as a figure...
